It’s official! Diddy‘s eldest son, Justin Combs, will attend UCLA in southern California next fall under a football scholarship. The 17-year-old Combs is a star defensive back at New Rochelle Iona Prep in New York. He will most likely play cornerback when he hits the field in the Bruins’ true blue and gold-colored uniform.
“Playing Division I football was a lifelong dream of mine, and through hard work I was able to achieve it,” said Combs in a statement (via Los Angeles Times). He was offered scholarships from top-tier Division-I schools such as Illinois, Virginia, Iowa and Wyoming.
Diddy is especially proud of his son’s athletic aspirations. “As a parent, this is one of the proudest moments of my life,” he stated. “This is everything a father could want in his son, for him to excel at what he loves to do.”
Justin Combs’ announcement comes a day after the Bruins fired their head coach Rick Neuheisel after four seasons. According to the Daily Bruin, Athletic Director Dan Guerrero cited a 25 percent drop in attendance and a lack of improvement with the football team’s overall performance on the field as reasons for Neuheisel’s termination.
Hopefully, Justin Combs will be that spark the Bruins need to help them win more games next season. If he’s anything like his father, then Justin is a competitor and he wants to win. We wish him the best on his collegiate endeavors.
MTV brought back lovable cartoon idiots Beavis and Butt-head and the alternative rock show ’120 minutes,’ so why not resurrect ‘Yo! MTV Raps,’ the series that may have been the most important hip-hop-related television show of all-time?
Unfortunately, the return of Yo! is just for one night, in the form of a 30-minute special to air on MTV2 on Dec. 4, directly following the Sucker Free Awards. Original hosts Fab 5 Freddy, Ed Lover and Dr. Dre will chat with some of today’s biggest hip-hop stars.
“It’s a great moment to be reconnected with ‘Yo!’ and examine the music that had a role in introducing hip-hop to music lovers globally,” former co-host Ed Lover tells MTV. “By looking back at these classic songs in hip-hop it becomes clear that hip-hop would inevitably transcend distance and generations.”
Fab 5 Freddy adds, “In this Classic Cuts special, people will go back to a seminal time in hip-hop, which many have called the ‘Golden Era,’ resulting in records that are as meaningful today as they were back then.”
Country cutie Taylor Swift caught some Miami heat last night when she brought Flo Rida out as a special guest to perform his hit ‘Right Round.’
Swift replaced Flo’s usual tall blond hook girl, Kesha, who sang on the original track. Swift’s semi-interpretative dancing was a sight to behold, and Flo had a huge smile on his face. The duo were clearly having fun, and the crowd ate it up — the camera work shakes eventually from all the jumping.
This isn’t Swift’s first hip-hop collaboration. Just last week she did a duet of ‘Just a Dream‘ with Nelly in Houston. In October, Swift and B.o.B performed ‘Airplanes,’ she collaborated with Usher in Atlanta, and she was reportedly “starstruck” upon meeting and performing with T.I.
When Rihanna and Jay-Z team up on a song, the end result is usually a chart-topping hit. After listening to ‘Talk That Talk,’ it looks like history will repeat itself. As we previously reported, this will be the powerhouse duo’s fourth collaboration since their 2007 hit single ‘Umbrella.’
The mid-tempo song features whining synthesizers and a pounding beat courtesy of the hit-making tandem Stargate. On the track, the Barbadian princess coos seductive come-ons to a potential lover. “I’mma get it right on the first try for you / ‘Cause you ain’t never had a woman like me / And you will never have another like me / No, so I’mma give it to you baby,” she sings.
Jay-Z is usually raunchy with his verse, but like the song title suggests, the veteran rhyme-slinger comes through with that big talk. “Everything that do is big / I talk big money, I talk big homes / I sell out arenas, I call that getting dome,” he raps. Despite his explicit lyrics, the tune shouldn’t have any problems getting radio airplay.
Overall, Rihanna’s infectious song is a pop no-brainer — score another big hit for RiRi and Jigga. And don’t forget, Rihanna’s ‘Talk That Talk’ will hit stores on Nov. 21.
Bruno Mars premiered the video for his song ‘It Will Rain,’ which is featured on the ‘Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1′ soundtrack. In the video, Mars deals with the subject of love gone awry and all of the positive and negatives that come along with being in a serious relationship. This new video should also please Twi-hards, since it features all-new clips of Edward and Bella, as well.
In the video, we get to see Mars’ romantic side, which is a far-cry from his previous goofy video for ‘The Lazy Song.’ The setting in the video displays the emotional quality of the song, with the apartment Mars and his girlfriend reside in looking gloomy and cold at times, while it feels bright and warm at others. The couple fights, makes up, fights some more, and makes up again before finally calling it quits. Mars is clearly devastated over losing the girl, and his performance feels cathartic at times.
As the clip comes to a close, we see Bruno writing a song, and the music seems to be helping cope with the breakup. However, at the very end, he is all alone standing in front of a rainy window, and this scene reflects his true loneliness. Mars does a great job of conveying the lyrics of ‘It Will Rain’ in a visual form, giving us glimpses of deep pain and joy in the new video.
Wale‘s ambitions has finally paid off for him. The D.C.’s rhyme-slinger’s second album, ‘Ambition,’ premiered at No. 2 on the latest Billboard 200 album chart. The set moved 164,000 copies in its first week of release.
Not bad for a guy who two years ago was dropped by Interscope Records after his debut LP ‘Attention Deficit’ was a commercial failure (it only sold 28,000 units in its first week). Now with songs like ‘Lotus Flower Bomb‘ (featuringMiguel) getting radio love and the streets embracing his anthemic title track, it looks like Wale has become a major player in the rap game.
Wale’s ‘Ambition’ will most likely drop in sales next week, especially, since Drake‘s second LP ‘Take Care’ will hit stores on Tuesday. The Maybach Music Group artist revealed to Rap-Up that he and Drake recorded a song together. “Me and Drizzy do have something coming,” he teased.
Since their collaboration, Wale hopes to put together a major hip-hop tour featuring himself, Drake and fellow rapperJ. Cole. “I told Drizzy about it,” he tells Rap-Up. “I said, ‘Yo, me, you, and Cole should do a tour.’ I don’t care if I gotta go first. I’m all about the f—ing culture. This is gonna be like the ‘Hard Knock Life’ tour of our generation.”
In this list of the Top 10 Music Tattoo Fails, PopCrush counts down the absolute worst tattoos fans have inked on their bodies to honor their favorite pop stars. This list contains some of the most horrific, random and creepy tattoos pop fans have tatted on their skin. While some of these look like drunken mistakes or like they are meant to be funny, some of these tattoos seem to be meticulously calculated tribute pieces that just turned out to be completely ridiculous. Check out these cringe-worthy pics of the Top 10 Worst Music Tattoos.
Incredibly Lame Miley Cyrus Tattoo
Not only does this guy's tattoo lack creativity, it looks like he got the ink while serving time in the slammer. This can't be true, though — a Miley Cyrus tattoo would not fly among a group of angry inmates.
Scary Christina Aguilera Tattoo
Most people weren't feeling Christina Aguilera's 'Bionic' album — except for this person, apparently. Seriously, out of all the beautiful Xtina pics there are out there, why would you choose this terrifying (and bald!) dominatrix image from her 'Not Myself Tonight' video? It's done well, but it is still one of the worst music tattoos in our book.
Feminine Justin Bieber Tattoo
Even though there is a whole website dedicated to women who look likeJustin Bieber, we have never seen the singer looking more feminine and awkward than in this tattoo. The worst part? This is inked on the leg of a middle-aged man.
Possessed Avril Lavigne Tattoo
OMG, Avril! What happened to your face?! Lots of people like to zombify pictures of their favorite celebrities (example here), but this tattoo looks like the haunting aspect was added totally by accident and unintentionally. We'll see you in our nightmares, terrifying Avril Lavigne face.
Ugly Katy Perry Tattoo
Nobody would kiss this girl, that's for sure. This Katy Perry ink job lands on our 10 Worst Music Tattoos list because it looks nothing like the gorgeous songstress! Sure, that is the outfit Katy wore on her 'Hot N Cold'single cover, but that's the only reason we recognize this pic of Mrs. Russell Brand. Whoever has this tattoo needs to get a refund.
Drake reunites with Rihanna on the title track from his upcoming album of ‘Take Care.’ The hot-as-fire duo comforts each other on the piano-driven, tribal drum-pounding song, which was produced by Jamie xx who sampled his own remix of the late Gil Scott-Heron track ‘I’ll Take Care of U.’
On the song, Drizzy tells a heartbroken RiRi that whenever she is ready, he will be there for her to give the love that she needs. “When you’re ready, just say you’re ready / When all the baggage just ain’t as heavy / When the party’s over, just don’t forget me / We’ll change the pace and we’ll just go slow,” he sings. Rihanna responds to Drake’s promises singing, “If you love me, here’s what I’ll do / I’ll take care of you / I’ve loved and I’ve lost.”
The song is not as catchy as their chart-topping single ‘What’s My Name’ — instead Drake goes for a more somber tone when it comes to dealing with love and relationships.
‘Take Care’ is among a slew of songs that were made available online after the album leaked on the Internet. Drake seemed unfazed by the leak stating, “I am not sure if the album leaked. But if it did thank god it doesn’t happen a month early anymore. Listen, enjoy it, buy it if you like it…and take care until next time.”
The official release of ‘Take Care’ is targeted for Nov. 15.
Although it was rumored that soon-to-be-parents Beyonce and Jay-Z would be expecting a baby girl, it looks like the reports are true thanks to Kelly Rowland. While doing press in London, the ‘Motivation’ singer let it slip that the gender of Bey-Bey’s upcoming newborn is, indeed, a girl.
According to Winnipeg Free Press, K. Row told an interviewer: “I have no idea what I’m going to buy Beyonce at the baby shower because Jay is going to buy that little girl every single thing possible. She won’t be spoiled but she will be very well looked-after.”
Rowland, who was recently honored at the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women of the Year Awards in London, seems anxious for the baby’s arrival. “I’ll be on hand for babysitting duties and I’m actually very good with messy diapers,” she says.
When asked if Beyonce’s pregnancy has made her want to have a baby, herself, Rowland insist that she was in no rush for motherhood. “I’m not broody,” she says. “I have five friends who are pregnant right now and so I will be borrowing their babies to play with.”
Despite the media frenzy surrounding Jay-Z and Beyonce’s baby, Rowland couldn’t be more thrilled about the new addition to the family. “I’m so happy for my sister and her husband,” she says. “They’re so happy in this moment right now, as they should be. They’ve made a little bundle of love, I’m so excited for them.”
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce broke the news on its website yesterday (Nov. 1), detailing Shakira’s charity work through her Pies Dezcalsos foundation, noting that she was recently named Latin American education ambassador by Barack Obama, and pointing out that her lifetime record sales make her “the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time.” Her Walk of Fame ceremony is scheduled to take place at the corner of Hollywood and Vine, across the street from the W Hollywood Hotel.
Shakira’s most recent album, ‘Sale el Sol,’ has been certified for worldwide sales of over four million copies since its release in October of last year. She’s scheduled to release a concert album, ‘Shakira: Live From Paris,’ on Dec. 6.
Kid Cudi stars in a new video for ‘Maniac’ that is not only grisly but maybe tough to watch for people with a weak stomach. The 10-minute black-and-white short film stars Cudi and fellow rapper Cage as French serial killers named Mr. Rager and Mr. Palko, respectively, who get their thrills by killing random people. Yep, this is not your average rap video.
Although the film was inspired by Cudi’s song ‘Maniac’ off his second album ‘Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager,’ Cudi nor Cage spit any rhymes in the flick. Instead, we get to watch these two guys graphically snuff out innocent people while a documentary crew films each horrific murder. In one scene, Cudi throws a Molotov cocktail inside a car while two lovers are making out. Again, we have to stress that this movie is not for the squeamish.
So what’s the point of the film? We have no idea. Outside of the fact that it was released on Halloween (Oct. 31), we can only assume that this is Cudi’s own beautiful dark twisted fantasy — No Kanye West. This flick might not sit well with Cudi die-hard fans.
